What are Trainer Bikes?
In the good old days bike shops would remove the pedals and cranks from kids bikes so that they could push them along with their feet, a bit like a scooter. This meant that they learnt the essential balance required to ride a bike. If they wanted to go faster they picked their feet up and went “woohoo” then using their feet for brakes.
This has now led to manufacturers realising that stabilisers are a pain and can actually slow down the learning process. After all balance is the key skill and if the stabiliser does the balancing how is the child supposed to learn how to do it. The new trainer bikes are designed especially for training youngsters.
We have customers who have started from as youn as 1. The great thing with the trainer bikes is that once the child has moved onto a proper bike the trainer bike gets handed on to either younger sibling or family friend.
